Clement volunteered for the Halifax District Minuteman in late 1775. He enlisted in a company commanded by Captain Robert Goodloe, a family friend and relative. The company was assigned to Col. Nicholas Long’s regiment. 150 men of the Halifax District Militia were sent to Virginia where they supported the Virginia Continental Army at the battle of Great Bridge on December 5,1775.
The Mullins family immigrated from Kent, England in the 1700’s, and settled in Granville County North Carolina which is north of Durham.
