“Sary”

This is 2nd Great grandmother Sarah Anderson, Born 28 Jun 1792, in Cobb Co. Ga. and died in Hardin, Texas on 17 July 1874. The Andersons had immigrated from Ireland.

Her father Captain James Anderson, fought valiantly in the American Revolution, more stories about him to come latter.

In 1807 Sary met Stacy, who was traveling on horseback through South Carolina headed for Mississippi, she would have been around 16 and Stacy around 31. It must have been love at first sight, because they were married soon after. When the wedding was over they rode away on there horses with all there belongings. It’s easy to imagine the excitement they must have felt for the adventure they were headed towards.

They were some of the first settlers in Jones County, Mississippi, purchasing land near what is now Laurel. They had a small farm where they raised 14 children. They would later move to Texas where Stacy and some of his sons were involved with the Jayhawkers. they are buried in Hardin, Texas.

One of there children was Jasper Collins 1827-1913. Who appears to have been well spoken and educated. He would latter be involved with Newt Knight and “The Free State of Jones”. (book and movie of the same name by Victoria Bynum)

One of his sons Lauren Riley Collins 1870-1952, would have a daughter Vivian Margaret Collins 1908-2003 who was my mother.

The other descendants of these 14 children are scattered all across America. Along with more stories of our direct descendants (I have over 3000 in my ancestry chart), I will explore some of there stories.
