Reverend Jonathan Mitchell 1624-1668 9th great-uncle Jonathan was the 6th child of Matthew and Susan Mitchell. He was baptized on December 16,1624 in Yorkshire, England. In 1635 he came to America and settled in Massachusetts. He had been afflicted with a fever at the age of 10 that left his arm drawn so that it could not be stretched out. At the age of 19, he entered Harvard College. After graduation he was sought after by many churches. On June 24,1649 at the age of 25 he gave his first sermon at the Hartford Church from Hebrew 11:27. He was ordained on August 21,1650 as pastor of the Cambridge Church. After serious disagreement with the president of Harvard regarding infant baptism he resigned.
In 1650, he was chosen a tutor and Fellow of Harvard College.
He published many Theological works regarding the Book of Genesis, parts of Exodus and on the book of John.
In 1664 He drew up the petition to Charles II respecting the Colony’s Charter.
At about 44 years of age, he died from fever.
He had several daughters and four sons, two of which also graduated from Harvard College.
