Manchester Cathedral

Manchester Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Manchester, seat of The Bishop of Manchester and the city’s parish church. Construction started in 1215. It is constructed of two types of stone. The dark brown sandstone walls are of Collyhurst sandstone formed in the early Permian period (about 300 million years ago) and its floors of limestone from the Peak District (southern end Pennines mountain range) which contain crinoid fossils (marine animals live at depths to 30,000 ft).

In 1506, 14th great-grandfather Richard Beswick endowed the Jesus Chapel which was built into the Cathedral in 1507. His daughter 12th great-grandmother Isabel is in 29 other public trees. Her descendant 6th great-grandfather William Crabtree came to America and settled on land granted to his parents by the king. He married 6th great-grandmother Jane Halstead, who traveled with him, they had eight children. They both died in Baltimore, Maryland between 1756-1759.
