In Roxie, MS, the base of his job on the railroad he boarded at Florence Pamela Jackson’s house and there the love between them began and was still strong as ever when he died. He was also a “Gentleman Boxer”. I have a wonderful picture of him with Florence and there first child my dad Clyde Harold Mathews.taken on the porch of Florence’s home in Roxie.

His first wife was Serena Davidson 1877-1901 and there child was James Tyrie Mathews. He seems to have only lived for about 5 months after her death from childbirth. Charles married Serena, on 19 Feb 1900 and Florence on 19 Feb 1903. The 1900 census has Charles listed as a telegraph lineman.
