Throughout my life I have been told I’m Irish. My mother even went so far as to visit what she believed was our ancestral home. Therefore, I was quite surprised to find in researching the Collins that they were English.
Grand father Jasper’s wife Gatzy Powell parents and lineage were English (although I’ve only been able to go back about 4 generations so far). Great great-grandfather Stacy, Jasper’s father’s wife, Sarah Anderson’s parents, 3rd great-grandfather James Anderson and 3rd great-grandmother Agnes Craig’s lineage were from Scotland and Ireland.
3rd great grand-father James Anderson B 1748 Augusta,Va. D 1813 Pendleton, Anderson, South Carolina. He was a Captain with Majors Porters Squadron Cav. East Tenn. Militia during the American Revolution. After the war he lived in South Carolina and had 11 children.
4th great grand-father John Anderson B 1715 Ulster, Ireland D 1787 Augusta, Va. (Scotch Presbyterian) In 1742 he was a member of Captain John Smiths Augusta County Militia.In 1745 he was one of the first Magistrates in Augusta County.
